Temperature Requirement:
60? to 63? F (16 to 17? C) night temperatures with a minimum of 65? F (18? C) days. Maximum flowering and growth occurs at 60 F night (16 C) and 76 F (25 C). Tolerant of 90? F days (32? C) Negative DIF will shorten flower stem length during lower light conditions.

Media and pH Requirement:
Water thoroughly and maintain soil at constant just moist level. Gerbera do not like wet soil conditions and foliage will yellow with constant damp soils. Maintain pH at 5.5 to 5.7 because Iron and Manganese deficiencies will occur above 6.0. These deficiencies can be overcome with spray applications of Iron and/or Manganese Chelated materials. Avoid ammonium fertilizers in cold weather. Plant crowns (soil line of plug) above the new soil line to avoid plant or crown rot.
Feed Requirements:
Feed with a balanced feed at 200-PPM Nitrogen. In a soil-less mix, additional iron may be required as stated above. Fertilize every irrigation at 200 PPM to start crop for four weeks. To finish, reduce feed rate to 100 to 150 PPM to eliminate excessive foliage growth.

Growth Regulators:
To keep leaves smaller and stem growth in check, produce Gerbera under high light covers and/or apply additional light using HID lights when necessary. Gerbera are not responsive to long days but total light accumulation.
Disease and Insect Pests:
Aphids, Thrip, Mites and Whitefly
Pythium, Phytophthora and Powdery Mildew: Provide air movement around plants. Allow soil to dry between irrigations and drench with preventative fungicides. |
